Gallagher's Travels is a family-owned vacation destination located on the Hull’s Cove Plateau. Guests have their choice of newly appointed motel rooms on one side of the property or quaint country cabins on the other. The Visitor Center and main entrance to Acadia National Park lies just down the hill. The picturesque town of Bar Harbor is a mere five minutes away. Enjoy all that this special island has to offer from our convenient and comfortable accommodations. Management cannot be held liable for “sick days” taken for extended leaves at our establishment.

Our property hearkens back to the 1920’s when the horseless carriage unleashed the traveling wanderlust of the American spirit. The masses could now travel untethered from rail or steamship and visit even the most remote vistas, such as Acadia National Park. These travels became hugely popular as an unfettered way to rejuvenate the spirit and witness the beauty of America in a personal way. Thus began the era of the MOTEL (a portmanteau contraction of "motor hotel"). We encourage you to step back in time and motor inn to Gallagher’s.

Recently renovated, Gallagher’s Travels captures the spirit of the MOTEL era with a modern feel.

So here’s what you get. Starting with us!

We are the Gallaghers, Sean & Emmett, father & son, and we run the business. Denizens of Bar Harbor, we are avid bikers, hikers, kayakers and life enthusiasts. We will help you make the most of your visit to Acadia and Mount Desert Island (MDI to the locals and Desert as in "deserted". So don’t say it wrong as there are no sand dunes in Acadia – but there is a fjord – the only one in America!). We can help craft your day and wind you down at the end of it by recommending a dinner venue, watering hole or local activity. We don’t have a concierge desk but we CAN tell you where to go!

Other arcana:

  • Located in desirable Hull's Cove, we are 1000 yards from the Acadia National Park Visitor Center - closer than any other quality motel. (Bar Harbor is a five minutes and 22 seconds away.) There are also FREE Islander shuttles – just raise your hand and they will stop. Staying downtown is an option, but the room rate increase will scare the quills off a porcupine. We know time is money, but five minutes shouldn’t cost you that much – even in a shrink’s office.

  • We are on the main drag. You can't miss us. Not even with a GPS.

  • Drive right up. No immense parking lots to drag your luggage across or steps to negotiate. Enjoy a humongous parking spot in front of your room – no worries about *nudging* the car next to you. Even Texans with Hummers are impressed!

  • WE love dogs, hogs and other types of motorcycles as well. We even have kickstand blocks. Cats are welcome but they can't litter.

  • We tend to be meticulous in our cleaning. We steam clean all of our mattresses and rugs before the season. We use high-end commercial ozone generators after visits to ameliorate mold, smells and viruses.  (You are protected by both mattress and pillow covers. (Cotton – not plastic!) Did we mention high quality cotton EVERYTHING.)

  • The motel has mostly king beds with a few queens and doubles to accommodate different sized parties.

  • Gallagher’s Travels borders Acadia National Park. We aspire to provide a clean, comfortable, and affordable property while being mindful of the beautiful landscape nearby and our association with it. We have installed high efficiency hot water heaters and environmental systems in every room for ambient comfort. Energy efficient and sound mitigating windows have been installed throughout. Water for laundry and irrigation comes from our wells and reduces the load on the local infrastructure. LED lighting bathes the property with warm comfortable light.

  • We have 6 cabins – 4 are single bedrooms while 2 are 2 bedrooms. They are quaint and private. Two of each have kitchenettes. All have outdoor grills and decks. Each has a private parking spot, Direct TV, AC, and heat. A little home of your own away from the hustle and flow.
