Gallagher's Travels is a family-owned vacation destination located on Hulls Cove Plateau. Guests have their choice of newly appointed motel rooms on one side of the property or quaint country cabins on the other. The Visitor Center and main entrance to Acadia National Park lies just down the hill. The picturesque town of Bar Harbor is a mere five minutes away. Enjoy all that this special island has to offer from our convenient and comfortable accommodations. Management cannot be held liable for “sick days” taken for extended leaves at our establishment.

Our property hearkens back to the 1920s when the horseless carriage unleashed the traveling wanderlust of the American spirit. The masses could now travel untethered from rail or steamship and visit even the most remote vistas, such as Acadia National Park. These travels became hugely popular as an unfettered way to rejuvenate the spirit and witness the beauty of America in a personal way. Thus began the era of the MOTEL (a portmanteau contraction of "motor hotel"). We encourage you to step back in time and motor inn to Gallagher’s.

Completely renovated, Gallagher’s Travels captures the spirit of the MOTEL era with a modern feel.

So here’s what you get. Starting with us!

Various members of the Gallagher family have been involved in the start-up and operation of pet-friendly Gallagher’s Travels.  Denizens of Bar Harbor, we are avid bikers, hikers, kayakers and life enthusiasts. It is our great pleasure to share our love of Acadia National Park and Mt. Desert Island with our guests. We can help craft your day and wind you down at the end of it by recommending a dinner venue, watering hole or local activity. We don’t have a concierge desk but we CAN tell you where to go!

Other arcana:

  • We are less than 1/2 mile from Acadia National Park’s visitor center. LOCATION. LOCATION. LOCATION. You can’t get any closer. And the bucolic town of Bar Harbor is a mere 5 minute 22 second drive away. FREE Islander shuttles stop at our driveway so you can leave the car and sight see through the park or around the island. (During peak season they run ‘til 10PM. and will transport your bikes, pets, and other family members.) Staying downtown is another option, but the room rate increase will scare the quills off a porcupine.

  • We are on Rt. 3 - the main drag. You can't miss us. Not even with a GPS.

  • Drive right up to your room. No parking lots to drag your luggage across or steps to negotiate. Enjoy a humongous parking spot in front of your room – even Texan with Hummers are impressed!

  • We love dogs, hogs and other types of motorcycles as well. Cats are welcome but they can't litter. Inquire about our modest pet fee when you reserve your room.

  • We tend to be meticulous in our cleaning. We steam clean all mattresses and carpeting. Our commercial ozone machines leave the rooms smelling fresh and clean. Our bedding has lots of high quality cotton EVERYTHING.) Brand new walk in showers await you at the end of the day.

  • All motel and cabins have comfy King or Queen beds with Pottery Barn duvets.

  • Gallagher’s Travels borders Acadia National Park. We aspire to provide a pleasant and and affordable property while being mindful of the beautiful landscape nearby and our association with it. Our signage is Dark Skies Compliant and we have installed high efficiency hot water heaters and environmental systems in every room for ambient comfort. Energy efficient and sound mitigating windows have been installed throughout. Water for laundry and irrigation comes from our wells and reduces the load on the local infrastructure. LED lighting bathes the property with warm comfortable light.
